Common problems and solutions in the processing of hardware mold accessories


1. Material selection error or internal defect

Problem manifestation:

The hardness and toughness of the material do not meet the standards, resulting in the breakage or deformation of the accessories. 

There are defects such as cracks and inclusions inside the material, which reduces the service life.

Coping method:

Preventive measures:

Establish a supplier whitelist and require material inspection reports (such as SGS certification). Perform ultrasonic flaw detection or metallographic analysis on each batch of materials.

Corrective measures:

Disable use immediately when you find a defect and use the forging process to replace casting parts (improve the density of the material)

2. Improper heat treatment process

Problem manifestation:

Uneven quenching hardness or cracking, resulting in poor wear resistance or brittle fracture of the accessories. The tempering temperature is insufficient, the residual stress is not eliminated, causing deformation.

Countermeasures: 

Preventive measures:

Vacuum heat treatment equipment is used to accurately control the heating rate and cooling medium (such as quenching oil temperature). 

Increase deep cold treatment (-80℃) to improve material stability.

Corrective measures:

The deformed accessories are secondary straightened and partially annealed in super hard areas.

3. Extra-difference in processing size or shape deviation (high risk)

Problem manifestation:

The CNC machining allowance is insufficient, resulting in too large or too small matching gap between the guide column and sleeve. 

The machining error of complex curved surfaces (such as oblique wedges) exceeds tolerance, affecting the mold operation accuracy.

Countermeasures: 

Preventive measures:

Use a five-axis linkage machining center and match it with online detection equipment (such as a three-coordinate measuring instrument). 

Prepare a standardized processing parameter library to avoid human operation errors.

Corrective measures:

The excess parts are repaired or re-grinded in electric sparks and scrapped if necessary.

4. Failure to meet the surface quality (medium risk)

Problem manifestation:

Uneven grinding patterns lead to increased friction between the discharge plate and the punch. 

Coatings fall off (such as TiN coating) or surface rust.

Countermeasures: 

Preventive measures:

Mirror grinding process (Ra≤0.1μm) is used and is paired with a dustproof workshop. 

Destress annealing is performed before coating to enhance adhesion.

Corrective measures: 

Polish and repair minor scratches, and severely rusted parts need to be unplating and re-coated.

5. Poor assembly and coordination (low risk)

Problem manifestation:

The guide column sleeve is stuck in motion, and the thimble is not reset smoothly. 

The mold closure height error results in insufficient clamping force.

Countermeasures: 

Preventive measures:

Implement a pre-assembly system, use a feeler gauge to detect gaps, and reddish powder to check the contact surface. 

Adopt a modular design to reduce on-site assembly variables.

Corrective measures:

Adjust the gasket thickness compensation error and perform micro-polishing of the stuck area.
