Metal Mold Part refers to the metal parts used to make molds, which play a vital role in the manufacture and use of molds. Metal molds are usually used in the production of plastics, aluminum alloys, Die Casting, stamping and other industries. The purpose is to process raw materials into the required products through the shape and structure of the mold.

Definition of Metal Mold Parts

Metal mold parts include various components of the mold, such as mold core, mold sleeve, gate, cooling system, etc. Their main function is to ensure that the mold can be accurately and stably formed and have efficient production capacity.

Processing accuracy

Processing accuracy refers to the allowable range of size and shape errors of mold parts, usually expressed in microns (μm). For high-precision mold parts, the processing accuracy is usually required to be as follows:

Dimensional tolerance: ±0.01 mm to ±0.05 mm

Aperture tolerance: ±0.005 mm to ±0.01 mm

Surface roughness: Ra 0.4 to Ra 0.8 μm

Parallelism and verticality: 0.01 mm

Position accuracy: ±0.02 mm These precision requirements ensure that the mold can maintain stable production performance during use and reduce errors in production.

Mold life

Mold life refers to the number of production cycles that a metal mold can perform without replacement or overhaul. Mold life is usually affected by mold material, design, manufacturing accuracy, use conditions and other factors. Generally speaking:

The life of ordinary steel molds is 100,000 to 500,000 injection/stamping times.

The life of high-performance alloy steel molds can reach More than 1,000,000 times.

Carbide molds may reach 3,000,000 times or more. The life of the mold is related to the processing accuracy of the mold parts, the surface hardness, and the design of the cooling and lubrication system.

Mold design

Mold design includes the structural design of the mold, the shape and size of the parts, and the cooling system and exhaust system of the mold. A good mold design can effectively improve production efficiency, reduce scrap rate and extend the service life of the mold. The following aspects need to be considered during design:

Mold structure: The structural design of the mold must ensure its stable operation under high pressure and high temperature conditions.

Cooling system: An effective cooling design can reduce temperature difference, reduce mold deformation, and improve production efficiency.

Exhaust system: Ensure that the gas can be discharged in time during the working process of the mold to avoid gas retention affecting the molding quality.

Parting surface design: A reasonable parting surface design can reduce product deformation, improve the convenience of demolding, and reduce the defective rate.

Mold material selection: Select appropriate materials (such as high-hardness steel, aluminum alloy, etc.) according to the use conditions of the mold. The hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. of the material will directly affect the performance of the mold.

Common metal mold design materials are:

P20: used for conventional injection molds, suitable for medium production requirements.

H13: Commonly used in high temperature working conditions, such as Hot Stamping dies, with good thermal fatigue resistance and wear resistance.

S7: Suitable for dies with high impact loads, with good impact resistance and wear resistance.

Other relevant data

Mold weight: The weight of mold parts is usually related to the size of the mold and the material used, and the weight may range from a few kilograms to several tons.

Mold surface hardness: Usually the surface hardness of mold parts needs to reach HRC 45~55 (or higher) to improve their wear resistance.

Heat treatment: In order to improve the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of mold parts, many mold parts will undergo heat treatment, such as quenching and tempering.

The processing accuracy, life and design of metal mold parts are key factors to ensure mold performance. High-precision processing can ensure high-quality production of molds and extend the service life of molds; while reasonable design helps to improve production efficiency, reduce costs and ensure product quality. Therefore, when selecting metal mold parts, customers need to consider these factors comprehensively to ensure that their production needs are met.
