Pen model core: Analysis of key technologies for precision machining and mold design


1. Core functions and design principles of core

Functional positioning:

Complex inner surfaces such as ink pipe grooves, threaded structures, pen tip fixing holes, etc. 

Match with the cavity to control the dimensional accuracy of the plastic parts (tolerance ≤±0.02mm).

Design points:

Material selection:

Pre-hardened steel (such as NAK80, HRC38-42, suitable for complex structures).

2. The entire process of processing technology

01. Rough machining (5-axis CNC milling)

Target: Remove 80% of the margin and leave 0.5mm finishing margin. 

Parameters: Feed speed: 0.3mm/rev (avoid vibration). 

Tool: φ20mm integral cemented carbide milling cutter (4 edges, spiral angle 45°).

02. Heat treatment

Vacuum quenching: 

Insulated at 1050℃ for 1.5 hours, cooled by nitrogen (deformation amount<0.03mm).>

Deep cold treatment: Soak in liquid nitrogen (-196℃×2 hours) to improve material stability.

03. Finishing (slow-wire-moving + EDM)

Slow-moving wire cutting:

0.2mm brass wire, surface roughness Ra≤0.8μm. 

Electric spark processing: 

micro-pore processing (φ0.3mm nozzle hole, depth diameter ratio 10:1).

04. Mirror polishing

Process route: 

Diamond cast polishing (particle size 0.5μm) → Ultrasonic grinding (Ra≤0.02μm). 

Detection: 

A white light interferometer (ZYGO NewView 9000) detects surface quality.

05. Coating treatment

PVD coating: 

CrN+DLC composite coating (thickness 3μm, friction coefficient<0.08).>

Laser cladding: 

local reinforcement (such as thread area, hardness HV1200).
